cramped & croquet

Quotations:

Complete Works of Virginia Woolf: The Voyage Out

Already this cramped little cabin was the dressing room of a lady of quality.

They're like people playing croquet in the 'sixties.

a cramped room, etc. does not have enough space for the people in it.

croquet:
a game played on grass in which players use wooden hammers (called mallets ) to knock wooden balls through a series of hoops (= curved wires)
